My Past Year

Posted By on July 5, 2009

So today is my birthday…..

And it’s causing me to look back over the past year of my life.  I expect today to be a good day.  I mean, it at least has to be better than my birthday last year which consisted of two of my best friends taking me to get a drink and promising that my life would not “continue to suck this bad forever”.

In looking back over my past year and all that has happened, I have decided to make a list of some of the things that have happened and that I have learned since July 5th of last year.

  • Joined a small group at church.  This provided the opportunities for new relationships, allowed me to experience community, and put me in the middle of a new group of peers who for the most part did not know my story and did not care for the “poor me” attitude I had about my previous church.
  • Finished writing my book and had it edited.
  • Bought my first lottery ticket.
  • Stopped doing things out of sheer obligation or because I felt that “I should”.
  • Felt called to develop and improve my leadership skills.
  • Worked my way into love.
  • Learned to not only talk about the external but also the internal, meaning when people ask me what I have been up to but I feel like my physical events have been boring or repetitive, it is perfectly fine to answer by saying how God has been speaking to me or by mentioning the emotional battles I have been winning as of late.
  • Took a true vacation, going somewhere I wanted to go and not just traveling for the purpose of seeing family.

Happy birthday! Hope it was a great day. And congrats on the accomplishments of the year. Did you win the lottery at all? Hey, if you are interested in having people with similar stories to yours look through the manuscript, let me know.

Hey man, thanks for the advice on my blog. I was talking about other people who were in ministry, and something happened morally, and they are now out, or restored, etc… Just a couple different circumstances I have heard and experienced. Maybe shoot me an email about it if you want to hear more, carrelda@gmail.com
