Help Me Develope A Message To Promote My Book (part 5 – repentance)

Posted By on April 15, 2010

Like the last post, I would like to begin by posing a question.  What comes to mind when you hear, or in this case read, the word repentance?  When you hear repentance being discussed or a street corner preacher demanding you to do so before you are hit by that preverbal Mack truck, what reaction do you have?  Perhaps it would be best for you to scroll down and give your comments now before reading my thoughts.

You back?

Good!

I, probably like many of you, used to associate the term repentance with an angry preacher who knew nothing about me but was telling me what to do.  The only definition I had been given by anyone in church was a former pastor who did the whole walk toward one side of the stage and then turn and walk the opposite direction illustration.

But in reading a passage in The Message Bible, I found the term life change where the word “repentance” was in other translations.  I found this to be very powerful.  Repentance is not about guilt, shame, or feeling unworthy, though you could have fooled me.  It’s about change.  It’s about taking charge and being intentional about becoming better.

Life change could refer to habits, patterns, or any area of your life you find lacking.  It’s not about getting beat down but about standing up for wanting more than the continuous struggles and shortcomings.  Having gone through a time that required I repent and see change in my life now motivates me to preach the message of life change to others.  That’s my motivation behind promoting the book.
